Description

On the beach in Casuarina’s southern precinct this home is a fine example of sustainable living. Thoughtfully designed to blend with the coastal environment; sustainable building materials integrated with a functional & low maintenance design has created a beautiful easy living home. This building has a high level of finish and is the signature display home for “Natural Designer Homes”

The design scope for the external building finishes were to blend with the environment and be as close to maintenance free as possible,  the Architect adopted Corten steel as a cladding for its ability to protect itself with a layer of oxidised steel that also gives a natural feel to the building. Rough sawn western red cedar has also been used for its thermal properties and ability to withstand the harshest of conditions without the need for ongoing maintenance. Other external finishes include honed concrete terraces & pool copings / high density fibre cement wall panels/ anodised aluminium windows & doors/ honed block-work laid without the use of mortar/ solid glass front door.

Internal materials include extensive use of furniture grade birch plywoods for all inbuilt joinery/ Corian bench-tops throughout/ western red cedar wall paneling in wet areas/ honed concrete floors/ Linoleum floor coverings/ Azaria mosaic tiles/ clay based paints on walls & ceilings.

This home showcases products & materials from companies who are environmentally aware and committed to making a difference in today’s built environment.
